Metrics (Media Security)

You can sort, filter, and categorize your MediaGuard and FraudSensor data according to a variety of metrics. These metrics appear throughout the HUMAN Dashboard, including the Explore and Reports pages.

Summary

Summary metrics provide general information about the quality of your traffic.

  • Total Requests/Events: The total number of recorded requests/events.
  • Invalid Traffic (IVT): The number of requests/events that were flagged for invalid characteristics. This metric is the combined sum of SIVT requests/events and GIVT requests/events.
  • Invalid Traffic (IVT) %: The percentage of total requests/events that were flagged for invalid characteristics. This metric is the combined sum of SIVT% and GIVT%.
  • General IVT (GIVT): The number of requests/events that were flagged as GIVT. HUMAN identifies GIVT by using industry lists, parameter-based techniques, and other routine methods for detecting nonhuman and fraudulent traffic.
  • General IVT %: The percentage of total requests/events that were flagged as GIVT.
  • Sophisticated IVT (SIVT): The number of requests/events that were flagged as SIVT. HUMAN identifies SIVT by analyzing browser and device discrepancies, session behavior, and other attributes that are not typically displayed by valid users.
  • Sophisticated IVT %: The percentage of total requests/events that were flagged as SIVT.
  • Valid Traffic: The number of requests/events that were determined to be valid.
  • Valid Traffic %: The percentage of total requests/events that were determined to be valid.
  • Prevention Coverage: The number of post-bid events that were also measured by MediaGuard’s pre-bid solution, if applicable.
  • Prevention Coverage %: The percentage of total post-bid events that were also measured by MediaGuard’s pre-bid solution, if applicable.
  • Nonstandard Traffic: The number of requests/events that were flagged as nonstandard. Traffic is categorized as nonstandard when it is not concretely associated with bot-like behavior, but still exhibits traits that warrant investigation.
  • Nonstandard Traffic %: The percentage of total requests/events that were flagged as nonstandard.

General invalid traffic (GIVT)

GIVT metrics provide more detailed information about traffic that was classified as general invalid traffic.

  • GIVT - Data Center: The number of requests/events whose traffic originated from data centers that are known sources of invalid activity and nonhuman traffic. These requests/events are usually identified by their IP address, which may be included on an industry blocklist like the TAG Data Center IP List.
  • GIVT - Data Center %: The percentage of total of requests/events whose traffic originated from data centers that are known sources of invalid activity and nonhuman traffic.
  • GIVT - Irregular Pattern: The number of requests/events that displayed one or more attributes (such as user cookies or device type) linked to patterns of irregular behavior. Examples of irregular behavior include non-disclosed auto-refresh traffic and duplicate clicks.
  • GIVT - Irregular Pattern %: The percentage of total requests/events that displayed one or more attributes (such as user cookies or device type) linked to patterns of irregular behavior.
  • GIVT - Known Crawler: The number of requests/events that were triggered by a program or automated script that actively declared itself as nonhuman traffic. These crawlers, which identify themselves through a variety of mechanisms, are non-malicious instances of automated traffic and are often included on industry lists like the IAB Tech Lab/ABC International Spiders and Bots List.
  • GIVT - Known Crawler %: The percentage of total requests/events that were triggered by a program or automated script that actively declared itself as nonhuman traffic.

Sophisticated invalid traffic (SIVT)

SIVT metrics provide more detailed information about traffic that was classified as sophisticated invalid traffic.

  • SIVT - Automated Browsing: The number of requests/events that were triggered by a program or automated script that requested ad content (including digital ads) without declaring itself as a crawler. Automated browsing requests/events are often caused by botnets.
  • SIVT - Automated Browsing %: The percentage of total requests/events that were triggered by a program or automated script that requested ad content (including digital ads) without declaring itself as a crawler.
  • SIVT - False Representation: The number of requests/events whose ad request differed from the actual inventory supplied. This includes ad requests where the actual ad is rendered to a different website, application, device, or other target (such as geography).
  • SIVT - False Representation %: The percentage of total requests/events whose ad request differed from the actual inventory supplied.
  • SIVT - Misleading User Interface: The number of requests/events that originated on a web page, application, or other visual element that was modified to falsely include one or more ads. This includes ads that are rendered without being visible to the user, ads that are injected without publisher consent, or other tactics that trick users to click on an ad.
  • SIVT - Misleading User Interface %: The percentage of total requests/events that took place on a web page, application, or other visual element that was modified to falsely include one or more ads.
  • SIVT - Undisclosed Classification: The number of requests/events that are invalid but cannot be classified under any other IVT categories, or were discovered using sensitive techniques that HUMAN cannot disclose.
  • SIVT - Undisclosed Classification %: The percentage of total requests/events that are invalid but cannot be classified under any other IVT categories, or were discovered using sensitive techniques that HUMAN cannot disclose.

Nonstandard traffic (NST)

Nonstandard metrics provide more detailed information about traffic that was classified as nonstandard (meaning any traffic that is unusual but not specifically IVT).

  • NST - Incentivized: The number of requests/events that used explicit incentives to drive user interactions with advertisements.
  • NST - Incentivized %: The percentage of total requests/events that used explicit incentives to drive user interactions with advertisements.
  • NST - Proxy: The number of requests/events whose requests were likely forwarded through a different IP address.
  • NST - Proxy %: The percentage of total requests/events whose requests were likely forwarded through a different IP address.
  • NST - VPN: The number of requests/events whose location was likely obscured due to the use of a virtual private network (also known as a VPN).
  • NST - VPN %: The percentage of total requests/events whose location was likely obscured due to the use of a virtual private network (also known as a VPN).

Session completion (FraudSensor only)

Session completion metrics are specific to FraudSensor data.

  • SESSION - Complete: The number of events where the session had sufficient postback data to receive a “bot or not” decision from HUMAN.
  • SESSION - Complete %: The percentage of events where the session had sufficient postback data to receive a “bot or not” decision from HUMAN.
  • SESSION - Incomplete: The number of requests/events where the session did not have sufficient postback data to receive a “bot or not” decision from HUMAN.
  • SESSION - Incomplete %: The percentage of events where the session did not have sufficient postback data to receive a “bot or not” decision from HUMAN.
  • SESSION - Error: The number of events where an issue occurred with the session (e.g., HUMAN’s tag failed to load).
  • SESSION - Error %: Percentage of events where an issue occurred with the session (e.g., HUMAN’s tag failed to load).

Other

  • Net Events: Total number of events filtered for General IVT.
