# Configuration

Page Intelligence does not require initial configuration and works as intended right out of the box. Page Intelligence automatically detects and parses UTM parameters from the URL, as well as various other traffic attributes such as the referring domain, user agent, and more. The tag also supports passing custom values via an HTML attribute.

These instructions apply whether you deploy manually or with Google Tag Manager (GTM). Review the [integration options](/advertising/page-intelligence/integration-options) guide before you begin.

Optionally, you can pass up to ten custom values each time the tag runs. These values surface in the HUMAN Dashboard for reporting and tie to the originating pageview.

## Detection tag ID

The tag URL contains the path to the JavaScript file along with URL parameters, including the Detection Tag ID (`dt`). The Detection Tag ID (`dt`) is a numeric identifier associated with the specific tag. HUMAN generates this value when you create the tag.

> **Note**
>
> Include the Detection Tag ID (`dt`) whenever possible. It has a significant impact on integration health. Without it, HUMAN cannot easily troubleshoot integration issues or perform health checks when you have multiple tags deployed. The tag still identifies IVT if you omit this parameter.

## Pass custom values with an HTML attribute

Add the following HTML tag attribute to the Page Intelligence tag:

* **Name:** `data-pgi-c-params`
* **Value:** `"c1=placeholder_name&c2=placeholder_name&...&c10=placeholder_name"`

Here's an example of a Page Intelligence tag with custom values:

```html wordWrap showLineNumbers={false}
<script src="https://human.com/pgi.js?dt=*********" data-pgi-c-params="c1=abc&c2=123"></script>
```

## Pass custom values with a global variable

If you cannot pass custom values via an HTML attribute, define them as a global variable in the window object:

```html wordWrap showLineNumbers={false}
<script>
  window.pgiCParams = "c1=123456&c2=value2&c3=value...";
</script>
<script src="https://human.com/pgi.js?dt=*********"></script>
```

Name the global variable `pgiCParams`. Page Intelligence automatically searches for it if the `data-pgi-c-params` HTML attribute is not present in the tag.
